'One,' Episode 21: Rudi Goblen, Christopher Betts, and Madeline Pages
In episode #21 of the Yale Schwarzman Center web series, One, dramaturg Madeline Pages YSD’22 speaks with playwright Rudi Goblen YSD’22 and director Christopher Betts YSD’21 about their work together on the play “littleboy / littleman” at Yale Cabaret. The interview focuses on the collaborative relationship between playwright and director.
I feel that my job is to show the playwright what they wrote and then take it further. So, I have to know what they want to see or what they imagine when they were writing it so that I can say ‘yes, and’ in the rehearsal process.
One, a web series produced by the Yale Schwarzman Center (YSC), highlights interdisciplinary approaches to the arts in relation to the YSC’s values of collaboration, wellness and belonging. The inaugural season illuminates the creative and academic merits of student works impacted by physical distance and explores perspectives on community-building among dispersed groups. The series title, One, is a nod to the YSC’s aspiration to advance a sense of “One Yale'' and create an interconnected community that builds new traditions of student engagement around the campus and into the world.
