Policy Details:

General Items

Items commonly left behind—such as water bottles, books, umbrellas, clothing, and eyeglasses—are placed in the Lost and Found box located in Memorial Hall, just off the rotunda on the main level. These items remain available for claim until the box is emptied.

The Lost and Found box is cleared three times a year:

  • Late December
  • Late March
  • Late July
  • All unclaimed items will be discarded during these scheduled clean-outs.

Valuable or Sensitive Items

Items of higher value or sensitivity—including electronics, jewelry, wallets, credit cards, and cash—are turned over to Yale Security.

Yale Security typically transfers these items to the Yale Police Department within 24 hours. Items may then be forwarded to the New Haven Police Department for further handling.

Please note: It is the responsibility of the individual who lost the item to contact Yale Security, Yale Police, or New Haven Police to inquire about and retrieve their belongings.
