The Sound of Music A senior thesis in Music for Sophie Dvorak
Music by Richard Rodgers
Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse
Suggested by The Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp
Set against the backdrop of the rise of fascism in 1938 Austria, The Sound of Music tells the story of a young postulant who brings hope and music to a family in mourning. The production features students from the New Haven Public School District in the roles of the von Trapp children and involves a wide range of Yale students in performance and design capacities, with the goal of exploring how music can strengthen communities.
The Sound of Music (TSOM) is about using music to make sense of the world and of each other, especially in times of loss, fear, and isolation. The TSOM team is truly honored to bring this legendary show to the Dome and to promote joy and togetherness through music.
The Sound of Music is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization. www.concordtheatricals.com
