Session: History in the Making: Dance and Design in Public Art

The recent preservation-driven removal of the Calder sculpture from the adjacent Hewitt Quadrangle creates an opportunity for discussion around the role of public art in place making, history, and memory. Join architect Ming Thompson, designer Shikha Thakali, professor and dance historian Amanda Reid, Director of the Center for Collaborative Arts and Media Dana Karwas, Gabrielle Niederhoffer (YC'23), and members of the Design Brigade, to learn about and discuss their efforts to uncover the history of dance in New Haven through the gathering of oral histories under the auspices of Yale Dance Lab, and the translation of these oral histories into a public art exhibition in partnership with the Center for Collaborative Arts and Media and Atelier Cho Thompson.
