Concord Sonata and other fantastic eclectic works from Joplin to Nina Simone...

Jeremy Denk, one of world’s foremost pianists, proclaimed by the New York Times “a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs." In this solo recital, Denk—who is well known for his interpretations of Connecticut composer Charles Ives—celebrates Ives’ 150th birthday with his eclectic program featuring Ives’ Concord Sonata. One of America’s most quintessential sonatas, the Concord is known for its extreme technical difficulties making it a great challenge for any pianist. In addition, Denk will perform a variety of other fantastic eclectic works, ranging from Scott Joplin to Nina Simone.

  • Beethoven Sonata in E minor, Op. 90 (13”)
  • Joplin: Bethany Waltz (15” altogether set)
  • Gottschalk: The Banjo
  • Nina Simone: Just in Time (transcribed)
  • William Bolcom: Poltergeist Rag
  • Beethoven Sonata in A-flat, Op. 110 (20”)
  • Ives Sonata No. 2 (“Concord”) (42”)
