Marc Lowenstein

Marc Lowenstein is the founding Music Director of The Industry. With them, he has conducted The Comet / Poppea in Los Angeles CA, New York NY, and the Curtis in Philadelphia PA. Other projects with The Industry include the Sci-Fi opera Star Choir, LeBaron’s Crescent City, Cerrone’s Invisible Cities, LeBaron’s Crescent City, and Sweet Land, the Industry’s production about Indigenous erasure. 

He was Music Director for In C by Terry Riley and for Hopscotch, for which he was also one of the principal composers. With the LA Phil New Music Group, he conducted Lou Harrison’s Young Caesar, was Music Advisor for Cage’s EUROPERAS and led the premiere of Hermann’s The Call. Additionally, Marc has conducted opera premieres byLeBaron, Aperghis, Krausas, Schaeffer, and Oliver.

As a tenor, Marc sang about twenty five opera roles including Madeline X in the premiere of Foreman/Gordon’s What to Wear. He has also composed several large scale worksMarc is the Interim Dean of the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts where he has taught for 30 years.
