Faigy Mandelbaum, PhD is a Fulbright Scholar and clinical psychology postdoctoral fellow in the trauma track at the Yale Child Study Center and Yale Center for Traumatic Stress and Recovery. She treats traumatized youth and their caregivers using Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and the Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI) model. She also completes neuropsychological evaluations and assists the New Haven Police Department through Yale School of Medicine’s Child Development-Community Policing Program. Additionally, she is a policymaking fellow in children’s behavioral health through the Child Health and Development Institute (CHDI), in collaboration with Yale University and the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Mandelbaum completed her APA-Accredited trauma-focused internship at the Yale Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine. She developed additional expertise in DBT treatments through her practicums at McLean Hospital-Harvard Medical School in the 3East DBT outpatient and partial hospital programs located in Boston, MA. Prior to that, she trained at the suicidal and self-injurious behaviors units and Orthodox Jewish unit in New York Presbyterian-Cornell Hospital, located in Westchester, NY. She also treated veterans and adults with complex trauma histories in the Phobia and Trauma Clinic as well as children struggling with emotion dysregulation and eating difficulties through the Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Clinic (PCIT) at Hofstra University's Psychological Evaluation Research and Counseling Clinic, located in Long Island, NY.
Her research studies the impact of childhood trauma on PTSD and C-PTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Her Fulbright research and dissertation examined how childhood trauma, loneliness, and level of social support impact the development of C-PTSD in military populations. Her research has been recognized nationally and internationally. She was awarded the APA Division 52 International Student Research Award, APA Division 18 Psychologist in Public Service Student Award, Scott Grady Community Excellence Award, Allison and Kim Levy Continuing Acts of Kindness Award, and an appreciation award from the Mishmar Hagvul, Israel Border Police.
Dr. Mandelbaum is passionate about working with children, families, active combat soldiers, and veterans who have experienced trauma. In her free time, she enjoys scuba diving to explore beautiful corals and historical shipwrecks.
