The Fabulous Waack Dancers (FWD) is a New York City–based dance company dedicated to preserving the art form, history, and legacy of Waacking, a dance style that emerged from the LGBTQ+ club scene of 1970s Los Angeles. Founded and directed by internationally acclaimed choreographer and Waacking ambassador Princess Lockerooo, the company creates theatrical works that celebrate Waacking's rich cultural heritage while pushing the art form forward through contemporary storytelling.
Drawing inspiration from the glamour of Hollywood's silent film era, disco culture, and the expressive spirit of 1970s gay clubs, The Fabulous Waack Dancers use movement to tell powerful stories that honor the pioneers and origins of Waacking. Their work celebrates individuality, freedom of expression, and the enduring legacy of a dance form born from resilience, joy, and community.
Members of the company also serve as educators and ambassadors, sharing the history, technique, and cultural significance of Waacking with dancers throughout the United States and around the world.
Since its debut at the prestigious Works & Process at the Guggenheim, The Fabulous Waack Dancers have performed at acclaimed venues and festivals including Lincoln Center's Summer for the City, Jacob's Pillow, and the WOW Festival, among others. Through performance, education, and artistic innovation, the company continues to elevate Waacking as both a celebrated cultural tradition and a dynamic contemporary art form.
