David Soar was born in Nottinghamshire and studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio. During the 2025-2026 season, he returns to the San Francisco Opera as Titurel
in Wagner’s Parsifal and travels to Utah Opera as Rocco in Beethoven’s Fidelio. He returns to San Francisco Opera during the 2026-2027 season.
Recent career highlights on the opera stage include Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd (Utah Opera); Zuniga in a performance of Bizet's Carmen (San Francisco Opera); Timur in Turandot (Lyric Opera of Kansas City); Wagner’s Das Rheingold (Fasolt with Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Fafner with Pacific Symphony); Capulet in Roméo et Juliette (Opernhaus Zürich); Colline in La bohème and Ludovico in Otello (Royal Opera House); Masetto in Don Giovanni and Colline (The Metropolitan Opera); Mr. Flint in Billy Budd (Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne Festival and Teatro Real); Escamillo in Carmen (Glyndebourne Festival and Welsh National Opera); and Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Sparafucile in Rigoletto (Welsh National Opera).
