Le Sacre du Printemps Program

Le Sacre du Printemps Program

At its premiere at the Théâtre de Champs-Elysées on May 29, 1913, conducted by Pierre Monteux, Le Sacre du Printemps caused a major scandal and upheaval.

More than 100 years later, we’re thrilled to welcome you to Commons at the Schwarzman Center to experience this fully orchestrated and choreographed Le Sacre du Printemps (this time without the riot and controversy!)

Three years in the making, this collaboration among the Schwarzman Center, Yale Symphony Orchestra, and Yale Dance Lab was born out of a desire for the three organizations to attempt something never before done at Yale. Each week, the Schwarzman Center is proud to host dozens of Yale dance groups for rehearsals and classes and each day, Commons inspires diners with its architectural wonders and culinary delights. But where else on campus can more than 100 artists come together to perform a work of such historical and artistic significance? The scale of the work calls for a setting as majestic and thought provoking as Commons. The vision of the Schwarzman Center includes using the arts to highlight interdisciplinary collaborations and we cannot imagine a more fitting example than YSO’s and Yale Dance Lab’s, Le Sacre du Printemps.
