As Commons returns with re-imagined dining experiences on two levels, the Schwarzman Center will also host performance, lectures, symposia, and festivals, both live and digital. Center and student-produced work from cabaret to comedy, from intimate and unplugged to the large-scale spectacular will bring opportunities for engagement and inquiry on an everyday basis.
Demonstration Events 2016-17
Three major events were held during the 2016-17 academic year to showcase the kinds of events that will take place at the Schwarzman on a regular basis throughout the academic year:
Celebrating the work of David Bowie and Prince, Blackstar Rising & The Purple Reign will explore the careers of two singular musicians who changed the face of popular music culture in the second half of the twentieth century. The event will culminate in a concert featuring the band TV On The Radio.
A two-day festival featuring headliner Wynton Marsalis, an internationally acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, educator and a leading advocate of American culture.
Also featured will be the five-time GRAMMY award-winning Maria Schneider Orchestra and Anat Cohen, a clarinetist-saxophonist who has an international following.
Food Conversations will feature four world-renowned chefs who will talk with students about significant issues and trends in today’s changing world of food. The conversation will be moderated by Jeff Gordinier, Food & Drinks Editor of Esquire magazine.
